Renovating a bathroom can be notoriously tricky business – there are so many fixtures to get distracted by, and at the end of the day, it has to be functional as well. It can be hard to see the wood from the trees - don’t worry, we get it. Luckily there are a few little tips and tricks you can keep in mind to help you create the perfect space where you can relax in.
First things first, figure out the placement of fixtures in the room and its flow. For example, you always want the door to open smoothly without hitting something, and if it’s left open we’re guessing you want to have an aesthetically pleasing view. Rather than have the toilet front and center, it’s preferable to have the sink or shower. Also, if you’re tight on space rather than have a swing door consider a slide door. They’re fun to open and are an elegant alternative.
You can put all the effort into designing the most beautiful bathroom in the world but if you’ve neglected to provide adequate storage, we’re sorry to say, you’ve failed at your job. Clutter is the #1 mood killer in any bathroom. After going to all that trouble of installing fixtures, you want to keep your surfaces sleek and clean. We recommend using a mixture of concealed and open storage – it’s the best way to quickly tuck away mess.
Pick your hero piece
One of the easiest mistakes to make with bathrooms is choosing too many hero pieces. You have to pick one statement piece and stick with it. Whether it be copper fixtures, an antique mirror, a coloured feature wall, or matte black tapware. Once you’ve chosen the hero of the room, you then build the rest of the interior around that piece.
Indoor plants are having their moment in the sun, so to speak. And we love when they’re included in bathrooms. Adding a few plants is an easy way to freshen up a bathroom and adds vibrancy and life.
